Younghoon David Kim, the chairman of Daesung Group, will attend the 49th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting (Davos Forum) in Davos, Switzerland from January 22 to 25. Chairman Kim, who has participated in the event for 16 successive years from 2004, will share his opinions and news from the event on global trends in various fields including politics, economics, and energy on his personal blog at www.younghoonkim.com. Chairman Kim has been sharing major agenda items and onsite highlights of the forum on his blog for 12 years, since 2008.

Younghoon David Kim, who has chaired the World Energy Council since 2016 and who is leading the organization of the 24th World Energy Congress (WEC) to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE in September, will seek mutual cooperation between leaders and pundits in the energy field at the forum in order to create synergy with the congress. The WEC is called the “Energy Olympics” since it is the world’s biggest energy event and only happens once every three years. It will be held from September 9 to 12 this year.

The World Economic Forum will be held under the theme “Globalization 4.0: Shaping a Global Architecture in the Age of the 4th Industrial Revolution” and it is anticipated to be an opportunity to discover how governments, private sector organizations, and individuals will prepare for change by forecasting how the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution will reshape not only industries but various areas such as politics, economics, society, and culture.

Since it is undergoing a shift in paradigm, representatives of the energy sector are expected to have wide-ranging discussions on what kind of synergy effects this will create with the  convergence of technical advances based on ICT such as blockchains and how the world energy industry will take countermeasures to confront climate change.

Chairman Kim noted, “Until the last year the global economic outlook was positive. However, now the global economy is in a downturn which is very concerning. In the energy and environmental fields there is a conflict between the claim that the response to climate change is not enough and a feeling of fatigue due to the rapid transition of the energy sector. Despite this, I have great expectations regarding the kind of solutions that will be suggested by global leaders in Davos at this difficult time.”
